Appendix B - ECR Programming
Samsung Required Programming
The register number, store number, baud rate, and polling port must be
programmed into the register during the initial setup of the Samsung. These
fields must match those entered into the PC before communications.
S-Mode
The 6500/6540 Register Number is programmed in S-Mode programming. To enter S-Mode
programming, turn the register key to the S position. The Register Number is at
S-Mode address 1.
Push the <1> and <SBTL> keys.
Enter the Register’s number from 1 to 16.
Then push the <X/TIME> key.
Finally push the <CASH> key to exit the Register Number programming.
P-Mode
The 6500/6540 Store Number, Baud Rate, and Polling Port are programmed in P-Mode
Communications programming. To enter P-Mode programming, turn the register key
to the P position.
Store Number
The default 6500/6540 Store Number is 0. You must enter a Store Number and it is at
P-Mode address 5.
- Push <6><0> <SBTL> to enter Communications Options
Programming.
- Push the <5> and <X/TIME> keys to enter Store Number
Programming.
- Enter the Store Number as a four digit number from 0001 to 9999. Push the
<SBTL> key.
- Push <CASH> to exit Communications programming.
Polling Port and Baud Rate
The ports on the 6500/6540 are numbered from front to back as 1, 2, 3, and 4. Ports #1 and #2
are RS-232 types while ports #3 and #4 are RJ-45 types. Only define one port for
polling. The ECR will attempt to use the first port it finds enabled for
polling. If both ports 1 and 2 are enabled, it will find port 1 first and never
look at port 2.
To setup serial port #1 for polling, the address is at P-Mode 50.
- Push <5><0> then push the <X/TIME> key.
- Push <2> for a 9600 rate then push the <SBTL> key.
The P-Mode address for dedicating serial port #1 to polling is at address 53.
- Push <5><3> then push the <X/TIME> key.
- Push <1> to dedicate the serial port to PC/POLL
- Then push the <SBTL> key.
- Finally push the <CASH> key to exit Communications programming.
To poll from serial port #2, substitute address 60 for address 50 and
substitute address 63 for 53.
EPROM Version
The first thing needed in Polling is your EPROM version. To find the EPROM
version in your Samsung 6500/6540 place the C key in S-Mode.
- Press <1><0> <SBTL> to enter the S-Mode Service
Programming area.
- Press <8> <X/TIME> to print the EPROM Check Sum and Memory
Allocation.
- <CASH> <CASH> to exit.
This will print out the EPROM version and date.
Doublewide Characters
The Samsung is capable of using descriptors with doublewide characters.
To print doublewide characters in the logo message, place a ~ in front of
each character in Version 6 that should be doublewide. After saving and
sending this program, the character will appear differently. This is
ok--the information will still function correctly.
