LAVA offers a wide range of products to help connect RS232 devices to the TCP/IP world.  Their converters allow users to create a LAN or WAN connection to their cash registers.  The communications are still serial communications, however, the data is being transferred over a TCP/IP connection to allow customers to use existing Ethernet cabling or to provide a reliable transmission over longer distance runs.
